Student Leadership
At SMCO, student leadership is a journey of growth and service in action. Through programs such as the Student Representative Council (SRC), students develop confidence, communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills that prepare them for life beyond the classroom. The SRC gives students a voice in shaping College life, leading assemblies, organising events, and representing SMCO within the wider community. Guided by respect and collaboration, our student leaders work alongside staff to foster a supportive learning environment where every idea is valued and each student feels heard, empowered, and inspired to make a difference.
College Captains
Our College Captains embody the spirit and values of our community. Chosen for their integrity and commitment, they serve as role models for their peers and ambassadors for the College. Through leadership training and service, they guide fellow students, lead College events and worship, and represent SMCO with pride in the wider community. Working closely with staff and student leaders, our Captains nurture a culture of encouragement, responsibility, and unity. Their care, humility, and example reflect the heart of our mission: helping every student grow in confidence, purpose, and faith-filled leadership.
Student Representative Council (SRC)
The Student Representative Council (SRC) at SMCO empowers students to lead. As the voice of their peers, SRC members represent student perspectives, lead College assemblies, and contribute to community events. Through active participation, they grow in confidence, communication, and teamwork, learning to make thoughtful, values-based decisions. The SRC also works closely with staff to strengthen the learning environment and foster unity within the College. Guided by respect and service, our student leaders embody the SMCO spirit, encouraging others, inspiring positive change, and helping every student feel heard, valued, and supported.
Student Wellbeing
Student wellbeing is central to our mission; we create an environment where every child feels safe, supported, and valued, enabling them to grow in faith, confidence, and resilience. Through programs such as MindMatters, KidsMatter, and Bounce Back, students learn self-awareness, empathy, and strategies for emotional wellbeing. Our wellbeing approach supports not only academic success but also spiritual and personal growth. Working closely with families, our dedicated team ensures each student is cared for holistically, helping every child develop the strength and positivity to thrive in learning and in life.
For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.– Timothy 1:7
Life Skills & Wellbeing Development Secondary Program
Our Life Skills and Wellbeing Development (LSWD) program equips students with practical skills, confidence, and resilience to navigate learning, relationships, and future careers in an ever-changing world.
Year 7 LSWD
Year 7 Life Skills helps students explore identity, emotions, and motivation while building resilience and goal-setting habits. Through case studies and activities, they develop self-awareness, confidence, and effective study and time-management skills.
Year 8 LSWD
Year 8 Life Skills strengthens communication, empathy, and positive relationships. Students reflect on issues like bullying, conflict, and peer pressure through discussions and activities, while refining organisation, study habits, and time-management skills.
Year 9 LSWD
Year 9 Life Skills prepares students for future employment through practical lessons in CV writing, job applications, and interviews. Real-life scenarios build confidence, professionalism, and transferable skills in teamwork, research, and time management.
Year 10 LSWD
Year 10 Life Skills focuses on financial literacy and workplace understanding. Students learn about wages, budgeting, and employment conditions while refining study habits and goal-setting skills for career readiness and lifelong independence.
Years 11 & 12 LSWD
Senior students receive tailored guidance on relationships, career pathways, wellbeing, and VCE preparation. Through wellbeing lessons, camps, and mentoring, they build resilience, balance, and confidence to succeed academically and personally.
At SMCO, student wellbeing is central to every aspect of College life. We provide a compassionate, faith-filled environment where each child feels safe, supported, and valued. In the Primary years, students are guided by a caring network of teachers, leaders, our College Chaplain, Counsellor, and Learning Support staff who nurture emotional and spiritual growth. In the Secondary years, a dedicated wellbeing team, including Life Skills and Wellbeing Development teachers, works alongside students to build confidence, character, and resilience.
Together, these teams partner closely with families to ensure each student receives holistic care, encouragement, and guidance. Through this collaboration, SMCO fosters strong relationships, empowering students to thrive academically, socially, and spiritually while developing the life skills and integrity to become confident, compassionate contributors within their community and beyond.
