Libraries
The SMCO Primary Library is a vibrant, welcoming space designed to inspire curiosity, reflection, and a lifelong love of reading. Its resource collection is diverse and ever-evolving, including fiction for Years 2–6, picture books for Foundation–Year 6, a Big Book Collection, literacy support materials, graphic novels, Indigenous and special themed collections, teacher resources, and technology such as iPads. All students regularly visit the library for sessions that nurture information and literacy skills while enjoying time to browse and borrow books.
Lunchtime opens extra opportunities for board games, creative activities, and quiet reading, ensuring the library remains a central hub for learning and fun. Special events like Book Week and author visits create lasting memories and foster a culture of literary celebration.
The Secondary Library is a dynamic learning centre offering extensive print and digital resources to support student assignments, research, and exam preparation. Its modern facilities include Mac computers, iPads, graphic novels, special interest collections, online resources, games, and study spaces to facilitate both individual and group activities.
Students engage in a variety of learning experiences, from reading and borrowing books to participating in collaborative research, chess tournaments, and professional development sessions. The library is also a venue for author visits, special events, and VCE exams, serving as a vital academic and social hub for every secondary student.
Science Facilities
SMCO’s science labs are dynamic spaces dedicated to hands-on, inquiry-based learning across junior and senior levels.
Five specialist labs, junior labs for foundational understanding, and advanced labs for Physics, Biology, and Chemistry, equip students with the tools and environment needed for experiments, dissections, microscope work, chemical investigations, and scientific modeling. Each lab is designed for practical activities that encourage observation and skill development, using modern equipment and real specimens to spark curiosity.
These facilities support enrichment activities, research, and in-depth projects, empowering students to connect theoretical concepts to real-world investigations and inspiring a passion for science and discovery.
