The Teaching and Learning Program is underpinned by SMCOC’s Teaching and Learning Policy and SMCOC Assessment and Reporting Policy. Both policies are underpinned by our Coptic Orthodox Christian beliefs, where westrive to maximise learning opportunities for our students, where their God-given gifts are nurtured and grown. Accordingly, it empowers our students to maximise their achievements, engagement and wellbeing in order to develop to be life-long learners, striving for excellence in order to grow into Christ-like ambassadors.
The Australian Curriculum is the building block of all our curriculum planning and learning opportunities. Our teachers follow the Understanding BY Design (UBD) as the educational approach for all our unit planning. All planning is available to students, parents and carers on SEQTA to enhance student engagement and achievement and ensure ongoing communication with parents or carers.
This way, the College has developed a shared vision for teaching and learning underpinned by collaboration and high-quality pedagogical practices and aiming to communicate high expectations to students and to support their pursuit of academic excellence. Accordingly, teachers acknowledge achievement, challenge underperformance and highlight areas for improvement.
